SM Associates - Let our training help you to succeed

We offer a wide range of open training courses.

We also provide bespoke, in-house training that is tailored to your specific needs. No two organisations are alike, which is why flexibility and attention to detail are at the heart of all we do.

Legislation, technology and best-practice are all evolving at a rapid pace, which is why, to keep at the forefront of new developments, our training packages are constantly being reviewed and updated. In this way we ensure that the training you receive remains accurate, timely and relevant.

From 1 June 2011, Voluntary Norfolk Members will receive a 10% discount on all training provided by SM Associates. This applies to both individual places on open training sessions (one discounted place per Membership, per course) and to Bespoke training, where the discount is 10% off the total package cost.

Training for Frontline Workers

Person Centred Approaches to Dealing with Difficult Behaviour (1 day session 10.00 – 16.00)

This course is suitable for front line workers who are working with service users/customers who show them difficult behaviour.

Basic Mental Capacity Act (Including Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards - DoLS) (½ day session 09.30 – 13.30)

This course is designed to enable frontline or care workers to understand their responsibilities under this legislation.  It can be delivered as a course without DoLS if required.

Basic Safeguarding Adults (½ day session 09.30 – 12.30)

Protecting vulnerable people is essential and we run sessions which can cover safeguarding adults. Volunteers, frontline and care workers who work with, care for or come in contact with vulnerable people in their work environment and managers who have not had previous training.

Dementia Training (½ day session 09.00 – 13.00)

A basic introduction to issues around caring for people with dementia. This course is aimed particularly at new starters or those with no previous training in dementia.

Health and Safety Training (½ day session 09.30 – 12.30)

This is an introduction to health and safety targeting the issues which effect frontline and care workers.

Infection Control (½ day session 09.30 – 12.30)

Frontline workers and those who have a responsibility to ensure that they take precautions to reduce the risk of spreading infections in any setting.

Developing Your Staff

Lone Working: Personal Safety (1 day session 10.00 – 16.00)

This course is primarily for front line staff who work directly with service users. It is also useful for office staff who work alone from time to time and deals with issues around personal safety within the context of proper professional practice.

Developing Professional Boundaries (1 day session 10.00 – 16.00)

This course is for frontline workers who want to develop good practice and reflect on the relationships they have with service users.

Managing Client Risk (1 day session 10.00 – 16.00)

This course is for staff who work with individual clients on a face to face basis and whose role is to undertake risk assessment and support service users to take risks in a managed way.

Equalities and Diversity (1 day session 10.00 – 16.00)

This course introduces the principles and values of diversity practice and will help participants to understand better how to implement it in their work.

Support Planning (1 day session 10.00 – 16.00)

This course is designed to help support workers and key workers to enable their service users to achieve their aims.

Management and Leadership

Managing Difficult Behaviour from Staff (1 day session 10.00 – 16.00)

This course helps managers to identify and deal with difficult behaviour from staff promptly and effectively.

Preventing Bullying and Harassment (1 day session 10.00 – 16.00)

This course is for everyone and is designed to explore ways in which bullying and harassment can be identified and eliminated from the workplace.

Managing Volunteers (1 day session 10.00 – 16.00)

This course is for anyone who works with volunteers to deliver or support their service. It will help in the provision of high standards of management to address the specific needs of a valued group of workers.

Managing Absence – Wish You Were Here (1 day session 10.00 – 16.00)

This session will enable managers to understand the different kinds of absence and how to manage them.

Effective Supervision and Appraisal (1 day session 10.00 – 16.00)

This course explains the principles of and reasons for doing supervisions and appraisals with staff.  Delegates will practice some of the skills needed.

Handling Disciplinaries (1 day session 10.00 – 16.00)

To avoid an employment tribunal, managers need to be aware of how to manage a disciplinary process. This is the course which will clarify the issues.

Leadership (Run as a programme of workshops)

Taking up a leadership role for the first time can be daunting. This programme will help you to identify your leadership style, your strengths and the areas you want to develop. It will assist you to plan and establish your own support network for the future. This programme attracts Train to Gain funding.

Presentation Skills (½ day session 09.00 – 13.00)

This course will give you confidence to deliver both planned and spontaneous presentations.

Making the Most of Meetings (½ day session 09.00 – 13.00)

This course will enable you to write agendas, chair and minute meetings more effectively.

Trustee Training (Can be run as ½ day session 09.00 – 13.00 or 1 day session 10.00 – 16.00)

This course can be designed to meet your organisation’s needs.  Examples of what we can offer are the role, responsibilities or liabilities of trustees, boundaries, and strategic thinking.

Employment Issues

Employment Law Updates (Can be run as ½ day 09.00 – 13.00 or 1 day session 10.00 – 16.00)

This course outlines the basic employment law issues and updates delegates with latest case law.

Managing Redundancies (1 day session 10.00 – 16.00)

Sometimes redundancies will have to be made. This session explains how to do this fairly and how to avoid pitfalls.

Managing Performance (1day session 10.00 – 16.00)

Managers want to get the best out of staff. This session shows how this can be achieved.

Successful Recruitment (1 day session 10.00 – 16.00)

Recruiting the wrong staff can be a costly mistake; we show you how to get the right person for the right job.

Dismissing Staff (1 day session 10.00 – 16.00)

We show you the processes to use to dismiss staff.

Value for Money

Our Open Training Programme represents excellent value for money with sessions priced as follows:-

  • 1/2 day session        £60 + vat per person
  • Whole day session   £95 + vat per person

If you have a group of colleagues requiring training and want to save on travel and accommodation costs, we can deliver any of the above subjects in-house, as bespoke training sessions for £495 + vat for half day sessions or £795 + vat for whole day courses. Workshops, multiple day training or other bespoke training programmes can be priced separately.

Cancellations

On all our training courses, 2 weeks notice is required for cancellations or transfers to alternative dates. Refunds or alternative transfers will be available if SM Associates has to cancel a course due to insufficient bookings.
